Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Counsel to join our team. The Junior Legal Counsel will work closely with senior management to provide legal guidance and support on a wide range of matters. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development to the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular compliance assessments and audits to identify areas of potential risk or non-compliance and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Provide legal guidance and support to internal stakeholders on compliance-related matters, including anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, data protection, and trade regulations.
  • Monitor changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards relevant to the company’s operations and proactively update compliance policies and procedures as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, disclosures, and reports to relevant government agencies or regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct compliance training and awareness programs for employees to promote a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance within the organisation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, human resources, and operations, to integrate compliance considerations into business processes and decision-making.
  • Assist with internal and external compliance audits, inquiries, and investigations, and provide support in responding to regulatory inquiries or enforcement actions.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues, including contract law, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders on corporate governance, compliance matters, and risk management.
  • Support in-house litigation and dispute resolution efforts by assisting with case management, document review, investigation and preparation for hearings or trials.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations relevant to the company’s operations and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist with due diligence.

Desired qualifications and attributes

  • Knowledge of Maltese law is a must
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, or equivalent legal qualification.
  • 1-3 years of experience working in a legal role
  • Strong knowledge of compliance,business and employment law with the ability to apply legal concepts to practical situations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to review and interpret legal documents accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Impeccable work ethic and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills, with a strong commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
